father's day cookie decorating

is there a better way to entertain a bunch of kids during sharing time in primary on father's day than by pepping them all up on a ridiculous amount of sugar and then sending them home to their parents? i think not. we wanted to make something fun for the primary dads, so cookie decorating it was. i spent some time yesterday baking sugar cookies (no fail ones here which i have been using since madeline was 5, so can vouch for their success!) then mixed up icing and got to the sugar-ing.

joseph was so excited - and may have eaten a bunch of the decorating items hhahaha.

while madeline took her job very seriously and made her dad! it looked adorable. doug's little red headed self on a cookie.

rosy cheeks and all. she can be so creative sometimes! then pondering what to do with her second cookie. it was so funny, she ended up using the icing to glue four freddo frogs on their side and then stuck a lid on and glued another on the top. doug loved it cause all he really wanted was the chocolate anyway!

it's a sugar fest!

like in all honesty, i don't know if he could have gotten any more on there if he tried!

the finished product was pretty impressive and i know all our primary kids had a lot of fun. definitely a success!

fathers day 2020

i am so, so thankful for the fathers in my life. i am grateful for the fathers that raised my mother and father. i am grateful for the amazing father i have. he was always 100% present, always there for me and the most amazing man i know. finding someone to love for the rest of my life was pretty damn hard when comparing him to my dad. there is still nothing he wouldn't do for me and although he rolls his eyes at all my requests, mum assures me they are done with love.

this is the first fathers day without my father in law and i would be completely amiss if i didn't mention him or the hole he has left in our lives. we still miss him every single day. he made my doug who he is. he is completely and utterly his dad... personality, laugh, sense of humour - and i love that he is still around us, living on through doug.

he is such a good dad. he riots with the kids, makes them laugh non stop and infuriates me with the bad jokes he tells them and the mischief he helps them get up to.

happy fathers day to all the fathers around me, but most of all the to the father of my children... the most important one in my little family. ❤

ward father's day gifts

father's day is almost upon us again, and seeing as we still can't really do anything exciting (even though covid restrictions in wa are fairly relaxed due to a extremely long period without any community transmission) we wanted to do something cool for the primary dads and drop it to each of them. i had seen this awesome little "man" keyring made from nuts and bolts, so we decided that would be the way to go.

after a stop to bunnings to grab supplies, i got to work and whipped up 20 of these bad boys. they were not easy... the wire chain especially was a bit hard on the hands - and there was multiple pairs of pliers involved to get the bolts tight enough, but it worked... and they look awesome!

packaged up in a little cello bag from the local reject shop (side note, i always have at least one pack of these on hand, they are 30 for $1.50 and have about a billion different uses)

with a card made on the canva app... perfect! ready for delivery. we are doing the best we can with what we can, to ensure our primary children and their families know that they are loved.

fathers day 2019

couldn't let father's day go by without recognising this deadset legend. you've made my life absolute bliss. even though every single time i used the phone as a teenager you were "expecting an important call from peru/turkey/italy" (take your pick haha) and you pretend to be disgusted by my sense of humour that i inherited straight from you... i'd still choose you every single time. love you so much!

and...
doug, your personality was made for being a dad (unless they argue back). you're full of epic one liners that they quote for months afterwards and make them laugh all the time with your knock knock jokes... but watching you with your dad is the best, cause i know for sure that you learned it allllll from him. love you both so much, i'm so lucky to have you, together. ♥

kindy father’s day morning

oh kindy... it's certainly never boring. today was josephs father's day morning and although daddy couldn't come because he's busy at work, i went along and we built this adorable tool caddy together! how cute is it? or more so, how cute is the child holding it?!

he was so proud of himself and whacked the living daylights out of the thing with the hammer we'd brought along... and although i had to start each nail for him, he did a pretty good job. i was watching my fingers though, he was pretty hammer heavy!

concentration plus... that little tongue of his was hanging out as he hammered away! way too cute. i am sure daddy will love his little caddy ♥

ward father’s day gifts

our ward father's day gifts are officially sorted. a cute idea, worded right... and all packed into bags ready to go.

i made the handout on the app "canva" which took all of 5 minutes, then printed them off at our local big w...
-pads were 3 for $2 from red dot, a discount variety store
-chocolates on 1/2 price sale at coles
-pencils were wood engraved by a member in our ward, who owns winter woodworking (and can pretty much make anything!)
-clear bags from the reject shop, 30 for just $1!

miss madeline helped me bag them up and they are now in the bishops office ready for next sunday! hope they are enjoyed by the boys in our ward. ♥

ward fathers day gift

every year the mothers in our ward get a present for mothers day... and the fathers look on. this year i broke the mould and made something for the fathers too. something really simple, that i found on pinterest and modified to suit: many & many thanks m&m packets! ta-dah!

they were perfect. small and cute and made the dads feel like they had been remembered.

(here's the template if you want to print, print on piece of 4x6" photo paper and select do not crop, then cut to size. staple to a bag of fun size m&ms.

a day for dads

it's fathers day! so here is a photo of my dad. he is amazing and no matter if i typed 16 pages worth of text, i couldn't tell you half the reasons why, so just know he is great.

this guy is pretty great too! every six years his birthday falls on father's day and today was that one in six. he assisted me in making these kids and is a great dad to them both. i love hearing them laugh uncontrollably because he is being silly about something... it's the best.

we love you doug. happy fathers birthday to you! ♥

a day for dads ❤️

this guy i married ten and a bit years ago... the dad to my kids, is pretty freaking awesome and i want to tell you all about that today. the kids love him so so much and when he is playing with them, or even just talking to them, all i can hear is squeals of laughter and utter delight. i certainly picked a good dad for them,

we bought doug a top from each of the kids and they were presented to him by these two, madeline wearing his and joseph carrying his along (little kid is so stubborn!!) it was so cute to watch them handing them over.

madeline made doug this yummy bow tie in primary yesterday...

and today doug arrived home from her fathers day morning at the kindy this morning with this adorable card and keyring that they had made for the dads. so so cute!

we love you daddy! ♥

my dad ❤️

if you've not had the pleasure of meeting my father, i hope that one day you do. he is an absolute gem. he always knows exactly the right thing to say at the right time and is loved by everyone who knows him. i loved him as a child and love him even more as an adult, now that we can have twice as much fun with bad jokes and terrorising the rest of our family.

we drive mum crazy with our obsession of pulling terrible faces non stop while we are face timing... and i love that he is always keen to take ugly selfies with me too. i just love him, everything about him - and i am so glad he is mine and that my children get to enjoy him as much as i did (and still do)

us four children have always loved to attack dad at every possibility and today on fathers day... doug gleefully took aarons place while i got my camera out to make sure we could remember yet another crazy day in the goodlet house, with dad, the original man of the house - right at the centre.

i am proud to say that this little one is definitely a goodlet... car mad and intently reading the street machine mag he found on the coffee table at jareds. hilarious.

fathers day love

happy fathers day to my daddy. to the man who i have loved from day one, who has wiped away my tears, played endless games with me, told me tin tin stories, told bad dad jokes, but truly been the very best person i know.

my dad is a true example of service. from a young age i can always remember him rushing off to help someone in need, whether it was fixing their car, being a handyman or just being a helping hand or shoulder to cry on. he is a truly wonderful man to know and i am so proud to not only be his daughter but to call him my friend.

i love to watch him with my children too. to hear him get frustrated with madeline pushing the limits the same way i did. to know how madly he loves them and to know that they have him wrapped around their little fingers. we are so blessed to have him in our lives.

but most of all, last but certainly not least... to see the way he loves my mother. it is the absolute truth that "the greatest gift a father can give his children is to love their mother" i have witnessed nothing but the purest love between my parents and i know that my father loves my mother more than anything in this world.

thank you dad. we adore you.

i've also been lucky to have a wonderful father in my own home. to watch my babies laugh with my husband brings the greatest joy to my heart. how sweet a home is, where laughter lives.

so thank you to the father of my children.

we love you!

father's day... in samoa

it's fathers day and i've just arrived in samoa! what better gift could i have possibly given my dad than arriving on father day? haha. i am more pleased than i could ever write about to see him. i've missed him and my mum so.

i've spent ages looking at this picture and have realised it's the first time i've ever thought dad and i have looked alike. i don't know if it is because dad has always had a giant moustache hiding half his face, or whether i've just never looked for it before... but we look so similar here!

i love my dad. he has never, ever let me down. he has always told me how beautiful i am. he has always defended me and looked out for me. he used to buy me a bouquet of flowers for my birthday as a teenager, just because he could. he used to slip me money when i was deliberately staying home in order to pay off my small debt when i returned from my year in brazil as an exchange student. ("you're 18 years old, you don't need to be sitting home on a friday night.") his lap was the safest place in the world when i was a child. he told the best (and most outrageous) bedtime stories.

but most importantly. he made me feel important. he made sure i knew that i mattered, and... he loved my mother so well, that i knew being a woman was something the right man would treasure for eternity.

he's incredible.
and he's my dad.

father's day

father's day has come again - and i still cannot get over how obsessed with her daddy this little girl is! she follows him everywhere and greets him at the door at the end of each day yelling "daddydaddydaddydaddydadddddyyyyy!!!" it's exactly the way i felt about my dad as a little girl - i remember him coming home from work and rushing out to the yard where he would let me ride about 10 metres on the roo bar of his work car while he turned around to park - then would walk me into the house on the toes of his steel cap boots. my dad was and still is the most amazing dad in the world. i have never felt safer than i have on his lap as a child and he still makes me light up with just the sound of his voice. we love to joke together and even now my mother gets furious with us when we are facetiming and instead of talking we just pull ridiculous faces at each other the whole time. oops. sorry mum. i love you dad! i still consider myself the luckiest little girl in the world!

it makes me so happy to know that this little girl and her daddy are well on their way to having the same kind of relationship that i had with mine. i mean for real - look at her loving him in these pictures! she only has eyes for daddy. cutest thing out.

today also marks a sad occasion in our house - it's been 6 years today since my father's father joseph passed away - on father's day. we were incredibly close and i count myself lucky to have known him so well, when so many people have never even known their grandparents. i know he and my grandmother are together and happy, yet still cannot wait to see him again. i love you and miss you everyday grandad! x
'til we meet again...

dia dos pais

this little girl worships her daddy. her first word was dad dad dadddd, and she's been calling it out ever since... seeing them together makes me so happy and i just love this picture of them together! she cuddled up to daddy this morning at my parents house and gave her daddy his presents and a multitude of kisses and cuddles... sweet little munchkin...

and i swear that all they did then was spend the day sleeping! i caught them napping at church and then again in the afternoon on the couch. so so sweet.

i am so grateful that my husband is such a good daddy
and that my dad is such a good dad to me! x

fathers day number 1

today my lovely husband (aka madeline's lovely dad) woke up to this for his first fathers day ever. i could not resist sharing cause she is so so so freaking cute! he is already such a wonderful dad and i know that he and maddie are going to be the best of friends.

happy father's day!!

i also think my own dad deserves a mention, he is such a wonderful man. he is always there when i need him and is just well, amazing.

so to the two dads in my life... i love you heaps! xx
