madeline's indonesian assembly

today madeline's class presented the junior assembly - all in indonesian! they have been hard at work so far this year in their indonesian class learning lots of different things including how to greet people and how to say their names. thennnn they learnt to sing "baby shark" or should i say "bayi hui" in indonesian. she was so proud of herself - and no surprise, alexander absolutely loved it, bopping away in his pram the entire time they sang. 

it was quite the day for it, because she then also sang in the school choir - a song called hideaway which is so pretty. she was so excited for it and i can see why. she loves to sing and the day was full of it. i am so proud of this girl... she just loves everything she does!

schools out for summer!

wellllll... that's a wrap on the 2019 school year. just six weeks of summer holidays ahead of us with the nuggets. they love their school (as do we!) and feel so blessed with the amazing teachers the two of them have had. this year was no exception and i felt so sad saying goodbye to them today. the only consolation is knowing that we will be back next year, and they will all still be here.

joseph just wanted to get home, but madeline was happy to pose for a photo with her teacher miss stone. she is the best and i hope that we still see a lot of her.

and this photo arrived through the classroom app later this afternoon. so cute! i know the kids will all miss their teachers... bring on next year! 

100 years old - groovy grannies

madeline's class had a dress up day today, they have been learning about the olden days as part of their society and environment classes (what we used to call social studies) and as part of it they asked the kids to dress up as though they are 100 years old. it was so freaking funny!

we added talcum powder in her hair to make it look white and put it in a granny bun, and she insisted that she needed to wear a sleep mask on her head "so i can be ready for a nap at any time."oh i feel you maddie!

her outfit consisted of a checkered dress, fur coat, white stockings and slippers, a pearl necklace, big glasses, a walking stick and a handbag full of "old lady things", a cat and her knitting. hahahaha! and the finishing touch? lipstick on her teeth. she asked me why she needed that and i said, ""just trust me maddie! sure enough, we got to school and when she grinned at her teacher, she just lost it laughing and said, "oh maddie, that's the best! lipstick on your teeth!" to which maddie turned around and mouthed thank you to me.

there was so many amazing outfits, some of the mums had drawn wrinkles on, someone had their hair in rollers, someone had a beehive hairdo. it was classic. 

let's just hope she's still this cool when she reaches 100 years old! 

crazy hair day

today was our crazy hair day at school. not going to lie, i have been living for this day. i saw this idea for madeline's hair on the internet when she was maybe 3 years old and have been waiting for their school to do it. well, today was the day.

i thought it would be much harder than it actually was, but in the end i just got a neutral coloured plastic headband and hot glued the cup on one side for her hair to pour into and cut a hole in the back of the bottle (before gluing that on too) to allow room for her hair to go in. no spray, nothing required other than a pipe cleaner to wrap around her hair to make it easier to thread it through. easiest hair ever. she said everyone loved it so that made me feel good haha.

joseph's was a little trickier. i had hot glued some of his cars ooshies to hairclips to pop in his hair after spraying his hair black (well that was the plan until the cans of hairspray was rubbish and barely worked for one decent spray ugh) with white passing lane strips. 

thankfully they worked just enough for it to be noticeable and he was happy with his do for the day. yay for that.

there were so many cool hairdos around the school... some people were so amazingly creative! but even though ours were pretty basic, the kids were happy and that's all that matters to this mum!

crazy hair day one - done and dusted. 

ellen stirling ps family fun night!

tonight was our school family fun night! once a year the achool p&c put together an evening with outdoor games, kind of like a carnival feel, along with a bbq to raise funds for the school. we didn't get to go to the last one and maddie was devastated, so we had our forms in well and truly before the due date this time around.

here's the kids showing off the sponsors sign, with the awesome contribution from woolworths (helped by their aunty dom) was proudly displayed.

we played ball in a cup (let's be honest, it was a kids version of beer pong and no one will convince me otherwise.) which the kids absolutely loved. one of the boys was absolutely amazing at it too... his parents will have to keep an eye on him when he is older!

and spun the chocolate wheel (sorry girls, whoever called it a prize wheel was clearly not from the country, that is a chocolate wheel. if you've ever been to any country show, it is a game run by the local lions club every single year) to win vouchers from the canteen, which joseph did and madeline was furious about.

and then had our bbq dinner, before waiting in the longest line of all time to buy an icecream from the van that had come along. alex was a champ and didn't get upset until it was actually time for bed, so we had an absolutely awesome night out. 

our school and local community is the best. we are truly so lucky to live where we do. ♥

kindy father’s day morning

oh kindy... it's certainly never boring. today was josephs father's day morning and although daddy couldn't come because he's busy at work, i went along and we built this adorable tool caddy together! how cute is it? or more so, how cute is the child holding it?!

he was so proud of himself and whacked the living daylights out of the thing with the hammer we'd brought along... and although i had to start each nail for him, he did a pretty good job. i was watching my fingers though, he was pretty hammer heavy!

concentration plus... that little tongue of his was hanging out as he hammered away! way too cute. i am sure daddy will love his little caddy ♥

school faction carnival

not much to see here, just a little red head, in red faction (giles at her school...) wearing red, with red painted hair (cause her already red hair isn't red enough) on school carnival day!

she was so excited to go off and run in her race, even though joseph isn't well so i couldn't come and spectate this year.

best bit of my day was logging on to facebook at one stage and seeing this picture posted by my friend with her daughter in the number 1 place... and my little one in second! she was so pleased when i picked her up and i know she did her best. clearly she takes after the kendalls... cause goodlets are unashamedly useless at sports. all of them. haha. 

easter hat parade

yesterday was our schools easter hat parade. it's the first time i've had to make a hat since the school hasn't actually done it since madeline started there in 2016. as you all know i don't like to spend money and am a firm believer in "use what you have" so i set out to make something they'd like, but still didn't blow the non-existent budget.

madeline wore my mary poppins hat (you can see it make an appearance here and here considering it came from an opshop in the first place i'd say we have well and truly got our moneys worth) complete with a set of bunny ears that i pulled apart and hot glued on... and some rabbits that my dear old mother whipped up. seriously, is there anything that woman can't do?

she was pretty happy about it and i was thrilled cause it was actually adorable!

joseph was a little tougher. mum brought a hat from her house that was red, that we thought he would be keen on, it was not the case. i had to think quickly... okay, unless lightning mcqueen is involved he is absolutely not going to put that hat on his head. bingo! old plastic top hat from the dress up box, a pile of plastic eggs that have been in the cupboard driving me crazy for the last two easters, more glue and some of his cars ooshies (little rubber cars toys), done! i was happy with it...

and as you can see, he was thrilled to pieces! like so thrilled that he didn't want to take it off. yay for mum and yayyyy for having a glue gun. easter hats? sorted!

easter class gifts

sorry for the terrible picture... but i just wanted to show how easy it is to make a treat for the whole class (side note, compared to last years effort of making vanilla confetti cupcakes for maddies pre-primary class, i guess this is a bit of a fail haha. lucky for me neither of the kids seem to remember that.)

these were so easy to throw together, it's simply a card made on red stamp, i made them two to a photo size print and printed them off at our local big w (10c each, so 5c per piece once cut) then taped on one of these cute easter animal chocolates from aldi. (bag of around 18 for $2) took me all of 10 minutes and the kids will love having something to hand out to their friends tomorrow. easy!
