fig salad

mum gave me some fresh figs this week. i love figs! one of my fondest childhood memories is climbing the gigantic fig tree at a neighbours house (neighbours where we grew up was a kilometre or two away haha) and picking buckets of figs for mum to make jam from. i would eat them by the dozen, until my mouth hurt (for those of you unfamiliar with figs, they act like pineapple after a while and make your mouth itchy and a little sore) but i have never gotten sick of them. i love fresh figs, dried figs, fig jam... anything fig. yum!

so... i was trying to be fancy and make something different with them. my friend google helped out there and i found a recipe for fig, rocket and goats cheese salad. i actually had goats cheese too, so i decided to give it a whirl. i found the recipe here and then based mine loosely around it.

****************************

fig and goats cheese salad

ingredients:
95 g whole almonds (i used brazil nuts oops, use what you have haha!)
2 tsp honey
2 tsp soy sauce
¼ tsp sweet paprika or chilli powder (optional)
¼ cup olive oil
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar (i used regular brown)
100 g rocket (i used a bag of mixed lettuce leaves)
6 fresh figs
150 g goat's cheese

method:
preheat oven to 180 ̊C/160 ̊C fan- forced.
place almonds (brazil nuts here my friends!) on a baking tray and bake for 10 minutes. next, combine honey, soy sauce and spice in a bowl. add almonds, toss to coat then return to the tray and bake for a further 4 minutes. set aside to cool. once cooled, roughly chop.
combine olive oil and vinegar in a separate bowl and lightly season with sea salt and ground pepper. drizzle half of the dressing over the rocket and toss well to coat.
place leaves on a serving plate. cut figs into quarters and arrange on the rocket. next, crumble over goat’s cheese and scatter over the chopped almonds.
drizzle with the remaining dressing just before serving.

**************

this has become a family joke to my husbands family. they aren't good with trying new things and no one wanted to eat it! don't worry, it got eaten and it was delicious!!!!! but now my father in law keeps making fig jokes to me all the time. don't worry, i can't take it! (and him!) if you ever have all the ingredients though, for sure make it, it is so yum!

why do the choices i make matter: a young womens lesson

i gave my first young womens lesson today, since receiving my call to serve as a counsellor in the presidency at the end of december - coincidentally the same day a new president was called, and i was called straight back into the same position. there was a long list of options, but i felt strongly to talk about choices and the effects they can have on our lives... then felt even more strongly to get some women from our ward in to speak with them. some women with a little life experience, who had at some stage had a difficult choice to make. it worked a treat and i was pleased to see the girls paying close attention as these women spoke to them. ♥

*****************************

The choices we make will determine our destiny. Many years ago, President Thomas S. Monson gave a talk about choices:

When we left our premortal existence and entered mortality, we brought with us the gift of agency. Agency is the chance to choose, instead of being told what to do or how to act. Our goal is to obtain celestial glory, and the choices we make will, in large part, determine whether or not we reach our goal.

Most of you are familiar with Alice in Lewis Carroll’s classic novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. You will remember that she comes to a crossroads with two paths before her, each stretching onward but in opposite directions. As she contemplates which way to turn, she is confronted by the Cheshire Cat, of whom Alice asks, “Which path shall I follow?”

The cat answers, “That depends where you want to go. If you do not know where you want to go, it doesn’t matter which path you take.”

Unlike Alice, we know where we want to go, and it does matter which way we go, for the path we follow in this life leads to our destination in the next life.
May we choose to build up within ourselves a great and powerful faith which will be our most effective defense against the designs of the adversary—a real faith, the kind of faith which will sustain us and will bolster our desire to choose the right. Without such faith, we go nowhere. With it, we can accomplish our goals.

Although it is imperative that we choose wisely, there are times when we will make foolish choices. The gift of repentance, provided by our Savior, enables us to correct our course settings, that we might return to the path which will lead us to that celestial glory we seek.

Elder Joseph B Wirthlin said: “The Lord has given you the gift of agency and instructed you sufficiently to know good from evil. You are free to choose and are permitted to act, but are not free to choose the consequences. With absolute certainty, choices of good and right lead to happiness and peace, while choices of sin and evil eventually lead to unhappiness, sorrow and misery.”

Some choices are easy:
Should I wear deodorant?
Should I stick my hand on the iron?
Should I tell my brother he’s a moron?
Should I steal my sisters clothes and makeup?

Some will be harder in years to come:
Should I smoke that cigarette?
Should I drink that coffee?
Should I wear that dress?
Should I tell my parents what happened at school?
Should I study or go out with my mates?

Some will be a struggle:
Should I serve a mission?
Should I date that boy knowing he’s not a member of the church?
How many children should I have?
Should I repost that meme even though I’ve posted 14 others today?

As we contemplate the decisions we make in our lives each day—whether to make this choice or that choice—if we choose Christ, we will have made the correct choice. Remaining active in the gospel and being worthy to hold a recommend to enter the house of the Lord are both things that will bring about wonderful blessings in this life and pay off with an amazing eternal reward.

We have a few visitors today and they are each going to in turn tell you about a choice they have made that has, in effect, helped them to choose Christ.

Guest speaker – “choice to return to church”
(I chose a younger girl, not too much older than the young women themselves to talk about why she returned to church after spending much of her teenage years inactive)
Guest speaker –  “choice to join the church”
(A new member of around 6 months, speaking on how she found and joined the church)
Guest Speaker – “choice to serve a mission”
(Our current sister missionaries and how they made their choice to serve a mission)
Guest Speaker – “choice to marry in the temple”
(A girl around my age, who had to make the difficult decision of choosing a temple marriage first up when not one family member could attend her sealing, followed by the the same situation when their adopted son was sealed to her and her husband a few years ago)

Video presentation: a young man choosing a better path to lead him closer to the Lord - from the lds media library

May we maintain the courage to defy the world. May we ever choose the harder right instead of the easier wrong.

For as William Law said: “If you have not chosen the kingdom of God first, it will in the end make no difference what you have chosen instead.”

joseph's fifth birthday

somehow the clock ticked way too much - and this adorable boy is yet another year older. our joseph turned five yesterday! he is so funny, makes great car noises, loves to laugh about butt and poop jokes ( a real little boy) and is obsessed with cars and lego. he is reading hard words and amazing his teachers and will still happily kiss and cuddle me in public, and hold my hand to cross a road. i just love him. i am obsessed with his cute face and that adorable toothless smile. (i am still very much hoping they grow back before too long.)

i especially love his favourite game, when he asks you to participate in one of his hot wheels races. you are given two or more cars to choose from so you can enter the race. but be warned, your car will never, ever win. sometimes you'll even not be allowed to have the car you have chosen, because he's already decided that it's going to be the winner. classic.

for school we had mini vanilla cupcakes with vanilla bean icing and lolly bananas on top. they were apparently a huge hit with the class, although i have my suspicions that many of the kids may have just eaten the banana and/or icing and been done with it.

he got plenty of lego, which he was thrilled to pieces, including an imagination set with 900 odd pieces. i am sure he'll have plenty of fun with that!

and some speed champions from us. words weren't enough to describe his excitement, for lego is life to him. haha.

a banana cake was his request, so i got to work making one for him and he was so happy. i love that it is so easy to make him happy. he is just the sweetest thing.

i am assuming he is going to wish for more cars and more lego... there isn't much else he wants. i wish my life was that easy.

don't blow it little one, five looks good on you.

i have to include this photo cause i love it so much. doug was holding up the candle to him and saying "you're three aren't you?" i love the picture of absolute horror on his little face. he was so offended that doug was asking him that. we did have a good laugh with him though, on saturday after his birthday party, i said to him, "joseph, how old are you now?" "i'm five!" "nope, sorry mate, you're still four. good try though/" he was so careful to say four after that, until he knew without a doubt it was his actual birthday. too funny.

joseph kendall, you are so, so loved.

red velvet cake! (happy birthday lyndon)

there are so many february birthdays in our family! joseph, jared, (our wedding anniversary too!), my grandfather joseph, and jared david are all within a 8 day period. it's madness! and... the day before joseph's is lyndon, who lives next door to doug's parents. they are super close friends of ours and have been such an amazing help with so many things...

this year we were invited to his little birthday shindig at home and i got to make his birthday cake! we decided on red velvet cake - and my friend google provided a really great recipe here. please find it below translated to australian baking lingo.

ingredients
1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk (1 cup of milk with a tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice mixed in)
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups white sugar
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon bi-carb soda
2 1/2 cups plain flour
1 bottle red food colouring (if your bottle isn’t full, doesn’t matter, chuck in whatever is left, it will still be more than red enough)

method
preheat oven to 180 degrees celcius (160 fan forced). coat 3, 8-inch round pans with non-stick spray. cut baking paper to fit in the bottom of the pans.
mix oil, eggs, buttermilk, vinegar, and vanilla on medium speed until combined. add in the sugar and mix until mixed in.
add the cocoa powder, salt and bi-carb soda, mixing on medium speed for 30 seconds, or until no lumps remain in the cocoa powder.
turn mixer to low and add in the flour and red food colouring. mix until smooth.
divide the batter equally into the pans.
bake for 25-30 minutes
cool in pan for 10 minutes and then turn the cakes out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

ice with cream cheese icing. i used this recipe here, doubled.

i was so proud, it looked almost exactly the same as the picture on the website and it was delicious! i will most definitely be making that one again! ♥

a talk on motherhood

i was approached by a bishopric member a few months ago and asked to speak about motherhood. i spent so much time thinking about what it is and what it isn't, but this was my final talk - i just missed one thing, which came to me the minute i sat down afterwards.

jill churchill once said: "there is no one way to be a perfect mother,
but a million ways to be a good one." ♥

***************************

Today I’ve been asked to speak about motherhood. This is probably the fourth talk I’ve been asked to give on motherhood, my first when I was pregnant with Madeline, so I’m pretty sure it’s one of two things. I’ve either got this on lock and am about to tell you all just how it’s done, so listen up! Or the more likely possibility, I’m doing a rubbish job and need to keep researching… which I have done over the past few weeks to put this talk together.

One of my friends asked me a few months ago if being a Christian made it easier to love your children when they are misbehaving, I told her heck no, you just spend a lot more time praying to Heavenly Father for the strength to not kill them. So far he’s given me just enough of that. I did a lot of that this week, when a child who will remain unnamed unplugged my computer not once, but twice in a five minute period and I lost half of my almost finished talk. Gretchen Rubin once said, "The days are long, but the years are short."

So. Motherhood… Motherhood is a partnership with the Lord. We, as women have been given this amazing opportunity to raise the spirit children of our Heavenly Father. It is up to us to guide them in the right pathways and help them to reach their heavenly home. Just personally, I think our most important job as a mother is to prepare our children and have them ready to make decisions that they don’t yet know are coming.

There is a primary song entitled “The Family is of God”, which states: “A mother’s purpose is to care, prepare, to nurture and to strengthen all her children, she teaches children to obey, to pray, to love and serve in the family.” It is so true. Most children learn their first lessons in life from their mothers.

I was blessed with amazing, strong and faithful women in my life. Both my grandmothers had lost a child and felt a pull to the gospel and the promise of eternal families. My mother’s mother had married a severely less-active member of the church, only to have the missionaries knock on her door in the 1960’s when my mother was a child. My grandmother felt something and asked the missionaries to come back... my grandfather was not as keen and said "you do whatever you want to do, but I'm already a member and clearly if I haven't been going for all these years I won’t be rushing off to church..." she persisted in her learning, joined the church and he eventually became active again.

My father’s mother had the missionaries knock on her door and asked them to come in, much to my grandfather’s annoyance. He supported her in her decision to learn more, whilst showing zero interest, but as the missionaries taught her, he moved from the kitchen, to the dining room, to the lounge room doorway, eventually to the lounge and after a few months more he joined them in the gospel. How grateful I am every single day for these two courageous women who stood up and made their choice, regardless of what their husbands thought, teaching their children to love the Lord, and enabling me to have what I have.

Both of my grandmothers died when I was very young so the very few memories I had of them have almost gone... I look forward to the day that I can actually get to know them too. I simply know that they set a fine example for our family with their dedication to attending church, serving within the gospel and their unwavering faith and testimonies. My own mother benefited from their ways and has been a true example of faith and serving others, raising my brothers and I in a strong, gospel centred home. I was lucky enough to choose a husband who had also been raised by another one of these strong women who helped him remain close to the Lord, serve a mission and be ready and waiting for me to arrive.

I have determined to be one of these women too; I am often heard telling my children (much to my own mother’s amusement) that I do not negotiate with terrorists, when they try to get their own way.

As mothers in the gospel, we have to be strong, often defying the ways of the world. In her 2001 BYU address entitled “Knowing Who You Are—and Who You Have Always Been,” Sheri Dew said, “Satan, of course, knows how spiritually potent the knowledge of our divine identity is. He hates women of the noble birthright. He hates us because he is almost out of time, while we are en route to everlasting glory. He hates us because of the influence we have on husbands and children, family and friends, the Church and even the world. It is no secret to him that we are the Lord's secret weapon.”

Elaine S Dalton once said, “If you desire to make a difference in the world, you must be different from the world.” As mothers in the gospel we have the responsibility of teaching our children the right path to walk. In Proverbs22:6 it says, “train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” I was taught things in my home that I now teach my children, simple things such as having personal and family prayer, reading scriptures, going to church, attending the temple, paying tithing, having regular family home evening, all the basic things that help us learn and keep the commandments. As a whole, we need to fill our homes and the lives of our children, with the light of the gospel, while remembering that when the time comes, it will be their choice which path they follow. For this reason, we need to make sure their feet are firmly planted on the right path! Our examples and testimonies can only take them so far, so we as mothers need to make sure we teach the gospel in our homes, ensuring they gain their own testimony, so they will remain faithful in the years to come.

President Monson spoke specifically of this in his final conference address when he said: “If you do not have a firm testimony of these things, do that which is necessary to obtain one. It is essential for you to have your own testimony in these difficult times, for the testimonies of others will carry you only so far. Once obtained, a testimony needs to be kept vital and alive through continued obedience to the commandments of God and through daily prayer and scripture study.”

The things he mentioned can be taught in the home. If we are doing the right things, our children will see and copy us. As Sister Joy D. Jones said, “Children are great imitators, so give them something great to imitate!”

Mothers who know of gospel truths stand strong and immovable. In her 2007 general conference talk “Mothers who know”, Julie B Beck said: “Who will prepare this righteous generation of sons and daughters? Latter-day Saint women will do this—women who know and love the Lord and bear testimony of Him, women who are strong and immovable and who do not give up during difficult and discouraging times. We are led by an inspired prophet of God who has called upon the women of the Church to “stand strong and immovable for that which is correct and proper under the plan of the Lord.” He has asked us to “begin in our own homes” to teach children the ways of truth. Latter-day Saint women should be the very best in the world at upholding, nurturing, and protecting families.

In equal partnership with their husbands, mothers lead a great and eternal organization. These mothers plan for the future. They plan for missions, temple marriages, and education. They plan for prayer, scripture study, and family home evening. They build children into future leaders within the gospel and the world. They do not abandon their plans by allowing social pressure or worldly examples of “parenting” to get to them. Mothers in the gospel are selective about their own activities and involvements, and sometimes even their friendships!, in order to maximize their influence where it matters most, within the walls of their own home. As President Harold B. Lee said, “The most important of the Lord's work that you will ever do will be the work you do within the walls of your own home.”

There are many faithful women who by no choice of their own, will not be given the chance in this life to become mothers. In fact, I think I could safely say that Sheri Dew, who actually has no children of her own, has given some of the most amazing talks about motherhood. In her talk, “Are we not all mothers?” she stated: “We tend to equate motherhood solely with maternity, but in the Lord’s language, the word mother has layers of meaning. Of all the words they could have chosen to define her role and her essence, both our Heavenly Father and Adam called Eve “the mother of all living” and they did so before she had even borne a child.”

Like Eve, we sisters began our motherhood before we were born. Just as worthy men were foreordained to hold the priesthood in this life, righteous women were endowed premortally with the privilege of motherhood. Motherhood is more than bearing children, though it is of course certainly that. It is the essence of who we are as women. It defines our very identity, our divine stature and nature, and the unique traits our Father gave us.

My children have been blessed with many “aunties” (some related and others who are friends that have become family) and even a bonus nanna. Some have children of their own, some do not – and may not. However, their shining example and ability to love them as we do has taught me so much, helping me in turn, to become a better mother. For reasons known only to the Lord, some women are required to wait to have children, perhaps even until the next life. This delay is not easy for any righteous woman. Some of us, then, must simply find other ways to mother. All around us are those who need to be loved and led. We have some amazing examples even right here in our ward, of women who have stepped up and stood in place when there has been someone in need of a mother. Motherhood is brought about not only by being able to carry and birth a child, but also by being an example and helping to raise others to walk the strait and narrow path.

Eve set a pattern for us to follow. In addition to bearing children, she mothered all of mankind when she made the most courageous decision any woman has ever made and with Adam opened the way for us to progress. She set an example of womanhood for men to respect and women to follow, modelling beautiful characteristics which we as women should possess: strong faith, a keen sensitivity to the Spirit, a hatred of evil and complete selflessness. She loved us enough to help lead us. As daughters of our Heavenly Father, and as daughters of Eve, we are all mothers and we have always been mothers. And we each have the responsibility to love and help lead the rising generation. Our young women will learn to live as women of God when they see what women of God look like. What we wear, watch, and read; how we fill our time and our thoughts; how we face trials and temptation, where we find true joy and how we act righteously. We are all mothers in Israel, and our calling is to love and help lead the rising generation through this dangerous life ahead.

Never in the history of the world has there been a greater need for righteous mothers—mothers who bless their children with a sense of safety, security, and confidence about the future, mothers who teach their children where to find peace and truth and that the power of Jesus Christ is always stronger than the power of the adversary. If we do not teach our children to follow Christ, the world will teach them otherwise. No woman who understands the gospel would ever think that any other work is more important or would ever say, “I am just a mother.” If we really want to make a difference in this life, it will happen as we mother those we have borne and those we are willing to bear with. As it happens, one of the greatest blessings of motherhood is, in fact, the other mothers. I am so lucky to have amazing mum friends and so many good examples right here to learn from.

As mothers in Israel, we are the Lord’s secret weapon. Our influence comes from a divine endowment that has been in place from the beginning. We just cannot let the Lord down. And if the day comes when we are the only women on earth who find nobility and divinity in motherhood, so be it. For there is no such thing as just a mother.

The most amazing blessings in my life, are the three children I have been given the opportunity to raise with my husband, in the safety of the gospel. I know of its truth and I want nothing more than for my children to come to learn and know that for themselves. How grateful I am to be a mother in Zion. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

heyyyyyyy joseph is five!

today we celebrated joseph's fifth birthday with a loosely themed (it was more just rainbow everything than anything else haha) hey duggee birthday party at the local water park.

it was a great day for it, nice and hot, with great company!

aunty jenny made our cake as usual and presented us with this gorgeous rainbow, drippy, lollipopped number. joseph loved it and it tasted amazing,

it even had bubble gum flavoured icing!

see, so chuffed! isn't he the cutest? ♥

we could not have chosen a better day for it either, there was a food truck evening being held in the water park playground beginning later that afternoon and going on through the evening and the local lions club had their community train there.

mum paid for all the kids to go on and have a ride around the park area and it was a hit. we were so thrilled, couldn't have been better if we'd planned it,

the train was even rainbow

and he was the happiest little boy in ellenbrook!

we'd brought along our own gazebo, thinking that we would never get the area we wanted, but as we arrived to the park, there was barely anyone there, and the actually party area near the barbeques was empty. i could not believe my luck!

joseph's favourite gift of the day was this epic water gun from our friends hayden and julia. hayden only has girls, so it's like he makes up for it buying the most over the top boys toys he can for our joseph. it's hilarious. it was filled and being blasted around the place within minutes and wasn't put down the whole afternoon!

hanging out with my love. we made a pretty cool kid!

grandma was on alex duty as usual and he was passed about and kept happy for the afternoon. everyone seemed to have a good time, even "grumpy old poppy"

i made the party favours by simply getting a 24 pack of rainbow lollipops from our local big w and printing a cute "thanks" label featuring hey duggee using the canva app. they were cute as!

it was an excellent day... and if i may, if you haven't seen the show "hey duggee" yet, then you seriously need to check it out. it is hilarious and well worth the watch. you can watch it here.

duggee hug!

'donut' forget the things that matter most: young womens new beginnings

tonight we had our young womens new beginnings evening to start off our year with the girls. our presidency got together to think of an idea and something suddenly popped into my head. i had seen a super cute idea a friend of mine had done with her ward a year or two ago involving the theme "donut forget" with a donut board and other cool stuff. so i went looking online for ideas of how we could do it for our evening.

it suddenly came to me and i realised i could put my relief society lesson, that became a stake conference talk one last time. we would have the girls speak about "donut forget the things that matter most" each of the 8 things i had spoken about could be likened to a young womens value.

faith - prayer
divine nature - attending our church meetings
individual worth - attending the temple
knowledge - scriptures
choice & accountability - paying an honest tithe
good works - family home evening
integrity - fasting
virtue - keeping the commandments

we assigned each of our laurels to speak for 2 minutes of one of those assigned topics and it was awesome to see what they came up with. i was so impressed with them.

we then had each of the new beehives introduced to us by their mothers, speaking of likes and dislikes, favourite things, fun memories. it's definitely something we will continue to do each year, it was worth it for the laughs!

we also introduced our girls to the possibility of completing their personal progress this year. we know that the program will be made obsolete at the end of this year to make way for a new youth program, so we wanted to make sure they were aware, in case any one wants to finish it off (or start and finish it off haha.) that will be me, i have never finished mine so i am excited to do so.

we located a sheet online here, that allows you to complete the entire thing in 12 weeks (with the exception of the 10 hour projects), so once they knew it really is possible, we challenged them all to do so over the course of this year. i'm hoping they take it up!

refreshements were a whole of things that had a donut shape, or actual donuts. yum! you can also find the cute (and free!) donut printables we used here.

it was a great night, but the thing i loved the most, was watching each of the girls receive one of these amazing cookies, (custom made by baked on benrua) with the gold torch logo and a matching pendant at the end of the evening. it was the best. i love that we gave them something meaningful and i really feel like they ended the evening feeling encouraged to go and do something this year!

baby alexander: four months old

four months already? what?
you've been a busy little baby with your blessing day yesterday, getting fussed over by everyone, but you were a champ!

during the last month alex has:
-made a very gurgling laugh when he thinks we are funny and doug tickles his face with his beard
-slept from 7:30ish until about 6am with a 10pm dream feed. (i am loving this!)
-he is grabbing out to get things and then holding on to them
-loving grabbing onto mine and madelines hair. he really does not want to let go and we have to untangle his fingers
-he is starting to try and roll over
-he has had a birth mark appear on the back of his leg, below his right knee. random!

you are still being fussed over by your siblings and doted on by all the family.

baby alex, you are so loved! ♥

alexander's blessing day

today our sweet little alexander had his blessing day. for those not of our faith, a baby receives a name and a blessing, during the first months of their life (although it can on occasion be done at a later stage). the blessing is given generally by the father of the baby, or another prominent male in their life who holds the melchizedek priesthood. during the blessing, this man and other important men in the baby's life surround the child in a circle and join together to assist with the blessing. he will speak of things hoped for or that may occur in the baby's future. it's a wonderful experience for a family.

today was no exception, doug spoke of wonderful things in store for baby alexander and it was beautiful to hear him speak so tenderly of him. the thing that stood out the most was that he would be strong both psychically and spiritually, which was a huge relief to me! after his rocky start in hospital, i'm glad to know he'll be strong in body and with the crazy world around us, i hope he'll always be able to remain close to his earthly family and his father in heaven.

he was assisted by his father stephen, my father neil, my eldest brother jared, our bishop paul and two friends, mark and hayden. getting everyone together for a photo afterwards proved impossible, so here's all the family together.

alex with his daddy and grandfathers

and with mummy and his grandmothers

he was such a good baby during his blessing, not making a fuss at all, meaning we were able to hear the entire thing with no problems at all. yay baby!

and madeline and joseph were so proud to have their pictures with him afterwards. look how chuffed they are. i'm so glad he's slotted in perfectly and that they love him so much ♥

and finally a good photo of baby alex with me. he is just the sweetest little thing. i am so happy he is mine.

all these little cuties turned up for the blessing... i couldn't resist throwing in a photo of them too!

*******************************

last but not least. alex's little outfit. i was so stoked. i found it on ebay (an absolute steal, just $10.49 including post) and it was exactly what i wanted. when it arrived i thought it was so huge that he could never possibly fit into it. but fast-forward a few months to now, when we actually had the blessing and it's just right. hooray for ebay!
