Millie's Birthday Party

Over the weekend we had a celebration at the Macqueen's house to celebrate the sweetest three year old I know, miss Amelia! She is the most adorable child and I just love her so much. It was a lovely afternoon full of pastel rainbows and cookies and milk and a great time was had by all - except her.

The poor darling was so sick that she didn't even get to enjoy her day and spent most of it between the couch sleeping and cuddling her parents. Poor little love. That cookie in her hand was basically a prop as I don't think she ate it or enjoyed it.

She did put on a brave face when it was cake time though and let Aunty Jade snap some pics for her mummy.

These crazy kids made up for Millie's lack of enthusiasm and smashed the pinata, giggling the whole time and loving their afternoon.

Yet another cake masterpiece from Jen - a cookies and cream edition. She wasn't that happy with it, but I thought it looked great and it was certainly delicious!

Maddie is 11!

Today this amazing girl turned 11! What an absolute joy it is to be her mum and I really, really mean that. She is so much fun, literally a miniature version of me personality wise - and I can genuinely say I enjoy hanging out with her.

She loved all her gifts - a new underarmour purple backpack for school, a longline black cardigan, a boba tea Stitch pop vinyl and a few other bits and pieces 

including yet another hairbrush, because no matter how many she has, she can't find one!

Her absolute favourite gift though, was being taken to have her second set of earrings done. She has been asking me for months and my response was no, no and more no, because my mother hit the roof when I had a second set done at 16 years old. I even made jokes about it being a "gateway drug" to more piercings as she gets older and even tattoos one day. Hahaha. She told my mum a few weeks ago she wanted them and my mum was like, "Oh what's the big deal, who cares?!" It's a completely different story when it comes to grandkids isn't it! Anyway, after that, I decided what the heck, let's do it and off we went to get them pierced. She was so bloody happy, you could not wipe the smile off her face.

Just before lunch, we headed off with her besties - 5 of them, perfect to fill my 7 seater, to go horse-riding in Bakers Hill... which is yet another reason Jen and I had tested it out last week.

We stopped off in the Bakers Hill townsite first to get lunch at the Bakers Hill Pie Shop...

Then walked with them over to the picnic area just off the highway to eat and have cake before we headed to the stables.

After realising we didn't have a lighter and borrowing one from the local Pharmacy (this mum has no shame and it was the closest store) we attempted for a few minutes in the wind to light the candles to no avail, so instead snapped this shot and gave up, before getting into the cake.

The had the absolute best time on their trail ride and loved every minute.

She loved it so much and was so so happy with her birthday party! It was awesome for me too and actually a lot lighter on the pocket than I had imagined. A friend had told me recently that they had been trail riding at Green Gables Stables a few times and tagged me in a post on their Facebook page- the very day they released their end of financial year deal, 10 hour long rides for $145 each. It's normally over a thousand dollars, but once a year they bust out these deals. How perfect that it happened to be right when I was looking. They happily let me use 6 at once for her birthday, 2 for Jen and I last week and I have booked mum and dad in for a ride for mum's birthday at the end of this week! WINNING!

Funniest part of the day, our super lovely next door neighbour Sammy always laughs about how much time Madeline spends in her pyjamas, so for her birthday she bought her a pair of Peter Alexander PJs and a matching mug for her to bring over when she wants a hot chocolate. So flipping cute!

Mermaid cups

The party prep is a forever thing for me, considering there are 6 parties between mine and my best friends kids - and seven this year now she's added another one to her bunch. Her daughter Isabel is having a mermaid party next month and earlier this week, I got busy with plain white paper cups, some watercolour paints and a sponge.

This is the easiest method on the planet. All it takes is a sponge and very watery paint, dip the sponge and swipe it around the base of the cup, leaving a gorgeous wavy coloured spot. They take all of 10 seconds each and dry really quickly, making it well worth the effort to get custom coloured cups for any party. Cups? Check!

 

Joseph's twos-day party

This year there was a really cool day in the calendar. Twos-day. 22/2/2022 which fell on a Tuesday, so it was affectionally dubbed TWOS-day all over the internet. Joseph's birthday is on the 20th, so he decided that Twosday was 100% his and he was having his birthday party that day.

We had the party after school and knowing it was going to be hot, we organised with the parents to send some extra clothes and started the afternoon with a big waterfight. I spent the last half an hour before everyone arrived filling water balloons so they could go wild.

They had the best time! There was so much laughter and squealing in the street while they had their waterfight and funnily enough, Maddie ended up being the one who copped it as all Joseph's friends ganged up on her and soaked her, then grabbed the buckets and tipped the rest of the water on her too.

The best was yet to come though, as we headed inside once they dried off and came inside - we had hired Joseph a mini claw machine! When it got dropped off, he nearly died with excitement and I'm pretty sure it was the absolute highlight of his life. My friend's boyfriend owns three of them and hires them out for parties and events and oh my goodness was it a hit. The kids spent all afternoon playing it and refilling it over and over until it was time for pizza and cake.

Joseph has been on about wanting the duck cake from Bluey for months since he saw the episode where Bandit makes it for Bingo, so he insisted he needed it for his party. So, I made it happen and his face was so worth it. I have never seen him happier in his life than when he walked in the door and the duck cake was made and waiting on the kitchen table. Life, made.

Made every single second that went into it, worth it.

Joseph declared that this was by far the greatest day in his entire life and did not stop smiling once. I feel like we absolutely nailed this party. He and his mates had a ball. ❤

 

millie is 2

a few weeks ago, this grade a cutie turned 2 and today we had a bunny party at the macqueens house to celebrate. she is seriously the most delicious child and i just love her little face.

i mean seriously. look at her!

jen made another epic cake, complete with raspberry highlights and rabbit ears

and as usual, we combined forces to make sure that the food was plentiful and delicious

smiles like this make it 100% worth it

alex's farm party

sometimes things just work out and we had the stars align perfectly to be able to give alexander the best third birthday. our house is currently a mess with the ensuite reno in full swing (which extended out to the theatre due to the water damage) so a party at our house was out of the question. but somehow we made it work.

mum and dad have been building a bonfire at their house for quite some time - and i had this great idea to light it up for alex's birthday, we could invite a few friends out to clackline... but then the fire restrictions got in the way, because the date we wanted was outside of the free burning period. the amount of boxes that had to be ticked before we could make it happen was ridiculous so we put that idea to bed.

until jen got a message from the shire of northam saying that the unrestricted burn period had been extended by 2 weeks because of how wet this season has been. wheeeeeeeee. game on! with just a few days notice, we called everyone and got it organised.

everyone turned up, and it was seriously the best party. mums only condition was that people bring something to share for dinner, which worked perfectly. we provided the fun party food and everyone else shared dinner.

alex was thrilled with the cute gifts he git. he was spoiled and loved and loved every minute of it.

my brother isaac brought his quad bike and took the kids for train rides in the hand made carriages and they loved every minute. best party entertainment out!

i even got to have a turn driving (then stalled it in the paddock but shhhh)

i even managed to pull off another decent cake which we drove up there. this time i did banana and it was so yum. it worked perfectly to be made into a stack cake.

and as you can see, once the minions were on, alex was so so so happy. he couldn't stop looking at it and smiling.

banana cake

ingredients:

125g butter

1 cup white sugar

3 ripe bananas

1 tsp vanilla essence

1/2 tsp baking soda

2 tbsp milk

1 1/2 cup self raising flour

2 eggs

directions:

preheat oven to 180 deg celcius

cream butter and sugar

add eggs and mix well

add mashed bananas and vanilla essence

mix baking soda and milk, then add to main mixture

add sifted flour

pour into lined cake tin and bake for 45 minutes

ice with cream cheese icing

icing: 

2 tbls softened butter

55g softened cream cheese 

dash vanilla essence

1 cup icing sugar

by the time we had finished dinner and then cake, it was time to light the fire and in true goodlet style up she went! i love a good bonfire and this one was no exception. there's something so magical about watching the flames.

we even had special cookies from aunty jenny, shaped like minions for all our guests to enjoy.

so lucky that things worked out the way they did. we had the best time and most importantly, alex loved it. farm parties for the win!
