well, i did say it was going to be a year of firsts... just yesterday we enrolled madeline into the step up dance academy here in ellenbrook to do ballet lessons this year. she is so excited that we can't get her to take her outfit off and she keeps doing dance moves and jumps all around the house. it's so adorable! i just hope she loves it once she is doing lessons as much as she does now.

madeline is six!
this morning i woke up and just like that madeline was six! i swear it was just yesterday that we brought her home from the hospital - and now she is a little lady, wants to pick her own clothes, have an opinion and worst of all, talk back! (oh my goodness, i wonder where she learned that from?) i am so proud to be her mum and love that she will not have decisions made for her. i hope she grows up to be independent and continues to show the strong will she has, not allowing the opinions of others to sway her.
we have received excellent feedback from madeline's school teacher. she reads extremely well for her age and isn't afraid to read around words and use other ones to work out the story. she is writing all by herself and sounds out words she doesn't know (even if they aren't correct) so that she can "do it by myself!" her maths skills are great too and we spend our time in the car doing simple sums and spelling every word she can think of. watch out world. madeline is coming for you!
maddie and joseph got to spend the afternoon with my mum as i had to attend a funeral nearby, and she was thrilled to see a beautifully set table when we arrived, with her a gorgeous decorated cake for her to enjoy. she was one happy little girl!
nanna even let her cut the cake herself, something mummy would never allow (i'm far too ocd) and serve the pieces.
after a long drive home, she was thrilled to see more gifts and a huge balloon from mummy and daddy. i was way more excited than her about the big one, a framed map of all the old landmarks in paris. i am obsessed with it and can't wait to see it hanging in her room.
more cake after dinner (this girl is going to be caked out) and then finally off to bed, so that mum can continue preparations for her birthday party this weekend. she may kill me some times, but i am so lucky she is mine ♥
happy birthday maddie!

maddie lost a tooth!
what a milestone!
miss madeline lost her first tooth last week and couldn't be prouder of herself. she came to me a few days before telling me her tooth was hurting which baffled me a little, until i pressed on it and it moved! oh she was so thrilled, her friends have started to lose their teeth and she hates to be the last.
a few days it got super loose and was just hanging by a thread in her mouth at which time she came to me and told me she needed me to help her (ew gross!) so i wiggled it a little until it popped out of her gum! then we left it out for the tooth fairy who was super generous and gave her $4. (lucky kid. that was purely because her grandparents happened to be at our house and doubled what we had haha)
our little girl is growing up at a crazy rate... it seems like just yesterday she was a baby - and now she's turning six next week!

madeline is three
this crazy little girl turned three today and i have no idea where the time went. it seems like only yesterday i was holding that little dot (top right) in my arms, wondering how on earth my life was about to change. luckily we never know what the future holds, as i am sure no one would sign up for it... haha. but miss madeline beth has brought immeasurable joy to our lives.
madeline loves birthdays and i am sure she has enjoyed dragging this one out. she loves to sing happy birthday over and over, anytime of the year, to anyone who will listen and has relished in having it sung to her. she waited excitedly for daddy to come home from work so she could open her gifts and quickly got to work when she got the go ahead.
her favourite by far was the frozen barbie dolls that doug and i brought for her. she had a look of pure joy, along with a huge gasp when she opened them. ohhhhh frozen! mum dad! look! it's elsa and anna! winner. we also gave her some slippers, a peppa pillow, little library and figurines (cannot go wrong with this child and peppa pig)... a ribbon stick (amazingly good choice, as just this past week, she's watched a hi-5 dvd with a ribbon stick and loved it so much that she kept talking about it.) an elsa dress up costume, her own torch (yes dad, we are starting her young) and a few other little things. she was so thrilled with every little thing. what a lovely sight.
she quickly donned the costume and her crown, and a pair of silver shoes (clearly the closest we had to ice in her wardrobe) from her party saturday and went for a queenly walk around the backyard, dodging the mum-arazzi. so cute. looooook mum, i'm el-sa! yes, you are indeed.
some maddie trivia for you on her birthday seems appropriate:
favourite food: peanut butter sandwiches, polony, rice bubbles and strawberries
favourite song: i am a child of god
favourite movie: frozen and tangled
favourite tv show: peppa pig (and possibly hi-5 now too)
favourite colour: pink
favourite game: tumbling monkeys (a birthday gift)
favourite clothing: her pink tutu skirt
favourite toy: duplo blocks and her little people disney princesses
favourite animal: lion
favourite thing to do: playdough, picnics and pretend running races in the house
she is so fiercely independent and loves to do everything on her own "i do it!! i do it!!" but also loves to cuddle with us and be loved. and we love to love her.
our little princess madeline. she's everything we ever dreamed she would be, and we love her to pieces.

big girl bed
yesterday daddy took the rail off maddie's cot and made it into a big girl bed! i don't know how impressed she is with the results though... when we tried to put her to bed last night all we heard was i donn wann tit! i donn wann it! for quite some time, as she climbed down again and again, and made her way to her bedroom door and knocked loudly until one of us came to let her out. this happened a few times - then eventually she cried out time and time again from the bed until she eventually went to sleep. the funniest thing was the fact that she got so worked up in the end that she started tumbling over her words and yelling iwannit iwannit iwannit! to the point where doug and i were actually laughing and saying, "well if you want it, then get in! hurry up!" poor love. let's hope tonight is a little better or i am going to be tearing my hair out.
it looks way too cute though. she's growing up far too fast and this poor mumma is terrified that she is going to be a teenager before i know it!
