i didn't like it that much

doug and i have spent the last few months laughing hysterically, every time someone brings up disney cars and joseph loses his shiz.

let me be quite clear about this. joseph lived and breathed lightning mcqueen and disney cars. i can't even emphasise that enough. like i cannot tell you how much he loved it. i swear we watched cars 2, once and sometimes twice a day, for about a year.

we had everything lightning mcqueen. he would watch the movie, in his lightning pjs, or clothes (we are talking shirt, shorts, undies, socks, jumper, and even shoes with cars on them) playing with the cars from the movie, doing puzzles of cars, writing the names of the cars... while eating off his lightning mcqueen plate with his lightning water bottle. not joking.

if we saw anything lightning mcqueen, he needed it. here we are spending our birthday money from aunty jenny.

birthdays were so easy. lightning mcqueen all day erry day.

i mean look at that happy face after unwrapping more cars stuff.

cars shirt, eating his cars decorated cake from nanna

and cars pj's brought home from the disney store in utah, again playing with cars toys.

but now, he claims, "i didn't like it that much!!" and then gets mad and storms off. well my son, i can assure you, you did like it that much. and more.

off to the hospital for dental surgery, in a lightning jumper, with a cars backpack.

the happiest day of his little life, at the cinema for the first time, to see cars 3. i have never seen a kid more excited in my life. that's when we were introduced to jackson storm, the first car to beat lightning mcqueen, who became joseph's arch nemesis. he was so mad about him beating lightning that he never got over it, in fact he had a pair of cars 3 pjs that had jackson storm on the front and after a little while, we had to rip the tag out of them, so lightning could be on the front and jackson had to be on the back.

yep. didn't like it that much.

i do hope these photos have proved just how much he "didn't like it" as i'm roaring with laughter all over again posting them up now.

he even got a ride on lightning mcqueen electric car for christmas from poppy and grandma. i can't describe the joy he experienced that day.

anddd the lightning library bag nanna made you. joseph, you may not have liked it that much... but we sure remember it differently.

rip to lightning mcqueen in the kendall house, cause alex isn't even allowed to watch it now.

jacob is 4

on saturday we got to attend the clackline social event of the season, master jacob macqueens fourth birthday party. my bestie jen put in a phenomenal effort making a disney cars themed shindig for him and as usual no one was disappointed. the centrepiece of the day was this amazing cardboard mack that jen found on gumtree and i wedged into the back of my car. the things you do for your mates. but seriously, it was so, so cool! i know she had been planning to make one, but when it turned up already done...

our little birthday boy had the best day, munching on some goodies, wearing a cool cars t-shirt, laughing and playing with his mates. living his best life! seriously though, can we please take a moment to appreciate the fact that he had a lightning mcqueen party and his last name actually is macqueen? mate, as far as i am concerned that allows for major bragging rights at that age!!

baby alex had an great time too, being carried around by jen's sister-in-law and madeline for most of the day while i snapped pictures all around the place.

how cool are these cookies jen whipped up? lighting mcqueen, jackson storm and cruz ramirez eyes. joseph was well pleased. this party would have been all his dreams come true a few short years ago!

some of the awesome treats on offer. my best friend is a magician in the kitchen.

birthday boy with his hardworking mum

and his family... about to grow by one in a few months!

isabel and mum ♥

i loved jacob's little face when jen bought the cake out... there is seriously nothing more exciting than seeing your birthday cake for the first time and jen's cakes never disappoint. this was pretty epic.

it was an awesome day and we were so glad to be a part of it ♥

happy birthday jacob!

cars 3

dreams came true for this little man this evening. cars 3 was finally released in australia today and after months of bugging us to watch the previews and clips on youtube, this cars obsessed little man got to see his idol lightning mcqueen on the big screen. as you can see, he was completely thrilled to bits and was so so happy to be there.

checking out the fun stuff in the theatre lobby

it was a great family night and even though i'm a lot older than 3, i really loved the movie! i thought it had a great moral and was lots of fun for the kids... i'd totally watch it again.

i have to leave you with this quote i saw on facebook this week though, because it made me laugh so hard... does lightning mcqueen have life insurance or car insurance? think about that one for a while...

a little big boy bed

we finally took the side of master josephs cot, after he managed to climb out of it every morning for about 2 weeks straight and he's not been too excited about it. until i discovered a lightning mcqueen pillow case in the cupboard and alllll of a sudden, he couldn't get in there quickly enough! haha.

then, gumtree saved the day, when doug discovered this gorgeous vintage style disney cars cot set and now it's on josephs bed, he is thrilled, he's sleeping in there without trying to run off and my little boy seems to have suddenly gotten a whole lot bigger :(

josephs racing car party

we had a birthday party today for this gorgeous little boy... because joseph is two, today! we decided to give him a racing car themed party because he loves, loves, loves cars. he was so happy to see all the things we had set up for him and wore a face of pure glee for the entire party.

my best friend jen stepped in as always and made this beautiful cake for joseph. a chocolate ganache icing and a checkered flag inside. super cool! how lucky am i? not only did it look amazing, but it tasted great too.

our take home gift for the kiddies was a pack from kmart, masking tape printed with a road and a little mini pullback and go car, with a balloon popped in, plus a little checkered flag. they were so cute and an absolute steal at just $2 each. all i had to do was remove the kmart paper liner, pop in the balloon and whack on a sticker that we got at the local cheap store.

i was super lucky too, a friend had a cars party for her son last year and was going to sell all the decor from his party, but happily passed it on to me... she had thought of everything, gone pretty black and white checkered crazy and had even bought large inflatable tyres to play with.

it was a perfect afternoon, a little warm, but not so hot that we couldn't sit outside and enjoy the backywrd... and there was even a nice wind to keep my checkered bunting moving about.

look at that sweet face. he was absolutely loving the attention and having so many people he loves about the place.

we had some pretty excellent party food ready and waiting to be eaten... thankfully my beautiful mum had come to help me prepare (she is the best)

like these "traffic light" brownies. so simple, but so cute!

yummm. kids party food is the best!

and my first attempt ever of making jelly slice, which was a raging success and i was so happy! it was really yum too... you should try it and you can find the recipe here. you could make any colour too but i was loving all the red with the black and white.

we of course had a round of pass the parcel and joseph was so excited as you can see, he just kept clapping his hands and laughing. what a cutie. i don't think he even knew exactly what was so exciting, but he was excited!

but his face when we lit his candles and everyone sang to him was priceless. he was so happy and kept smiling so much that it was almost as though we had rehearsed it with him. i will never forget that look of pure joy he was wearing.

and i am in love with this photo of us helping blow out the candles, with madeline poking her little head through a gap at the back to get in on the action. what a little doll. i just love how much she loves us all, especially joseph.

we had such an awesome time with family and friends and feel so blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful people. joseph was especially spoiled with some wonderful gifts. ♥

but the most wonderful bit was knowing that all our kids birthdays from here on in will be complete, with both sets of grandparents here in perth with us. i love knowing that madeline and joseph have them so close. what lucky children they are.

happy birthday baby boy! ♥

getting from a to b

right now i am driving a honda civic gli.

well not right this minute clearly,
i am sitting in front of the computer writing my blog...
but it's what i drive - everyday.
it's bluey-grey, 15 years old, runs well...
but i am more than over it.

so i spent the day dreaming of cars i would prefer...
in order of preference:

1. 1966 holden hr
my oldest's brothers first car - and still my favourite :)
2. mustang convertible
upon watching mary have "matty mustang" done up
on pimp my ride a few years ago,
it was love at first sight
(...especially after following one home today! drool drool drool)
3. 2001 jeep grand cherokee limited
i got to move one of these during a funeral service
last year and almost passed out with excitement
(admittedly that was was even newer - but i like this body shape)
4. holden astra convertible
need i say more????

5. mitsubishi 380
beggers can't always be choosers...
we have one of these at work and they are comfortable, quiet,
very powerful and handle the road beautifully
and i could probably even afford this one!
6. subaru forrester
what doug wants... and i also like a lot!!
this is most likely the next vehicle i'll be driving!
stay tuned...
because again:
i could probably even afford this one!
