baby kendall has an impromptu 'photoshoot"

last week at my midwife appointment, we found out that my fundal height (basically the height of your belly during pregnancy after the half way point) hadn't changed since my last appointment, two weeks prior. although i am fairly certain (as was the midwife) that this would have been caused by the bout of gastro i'd had, i was booked in for another ultrasound, to confirm that baby k was happy and growing away without any issues. so off we went this morning.

seems as though our ultrasound tech moonlights as a comedian, as when i asked him if he could confirm that baby k was indeed a boy, we were given this printout with a pic of his boy bits, labelled complete with little arrows. oh did we have a laugh at that!

seems all is well, hes comfortable, happy and most importantly the right size... ready to meet us in just under two months time. exciting stuff!!

good to go!

this picture made me laugh a little too hard, so i have been looking for a reason to include it on a blog post... and considering that i had an ultrasound today and they didn't give me any pictures, i thought it was a perfect excuse...

so an update on baby k2...

when i had my first ultrasound at 19 weeks, i was told that my placenta had attached in a rather unfortunate position - just 3mm from my cervix. this is not good, as if one goes into natural labour with it in this position, as the cervix opens, it traps the placenta behind it, causing it to come first and you would just bleed out. not a good option. (pause here for a side not - is this is the reason so many women died in childbirth years ago? because they didn't know things like this? one would have just gone blindly through pregnancy and into labour having no idea of the challenges ahead and problems that could happen! such a frightening thought, making me grateful yet again, that i live in a world of modern science that can see things before they are a problem and possibly save my life!! i salute you medical practitioners around the world whatever you may do!) there are no magical ways to move the placenta - but i was told that the clinic would do another ultrasound later in my pregnancy (today...) and revisit the options, as if it didn't move i would be forced to have a cesarean to prevent complications. the thought of this was pretty horrifying to me and i really hoped and prayed that things would sort themselves out - even though i was told, that for a natural to be at all possible, it would need to move up to at least 3cm (which can happen as it grows and settles) but considering how low it was it was pretty unlikely.

the good news is... it moved! all by itself. what a clever baby! it's now sitting at a fairly decent 6.3cm and i can rest assured knowing that no one is coming at me with a knife anytime soon. thank goodness. i feel so grateful as a cesarean certainly wasn't on my to-do list. what a wonderful blessing. :)

babyk2 is coming along nicely, growing well and looking (at this stage) to be about the same size as maddie (yes i know there is still plenty of time for it to get huge! don't remind me!) i am very excited and can't wait to meet it!

ultrasound baby k2

today we got to see babyk2 for the first time. doug came with me for my ultrasound so we could see our little monkey on the "big screen"

all is good and well and it has 10 fingers and toes, and is snug and comfortable growing away in my belly.

doug isn't into surprises as much as i am, so he asked what sex baby k2 is, and we now know... what's your guess?

i'll be halfway this friday - i can't believe it's come around so quickly - i guess it's not as hard when you're not feeling violently sick 100% of the time. haha

i can't believe how good technology is though, to be able to see baby up close and personal when it's so tiny - when i was a baby - this wasn't even an option.

plus, they can pick up so many things before birth, to be able to prepare mums and dads for what is to come, all miracles of modern science. i guess this, thankfully, is the reason there are a lot less issues in childbirth and thankfully again, a lot less women dying in childbirth. phew!!

this little monkey will be here before we know it, so i'm getting myself ready for the ride. a two year old and a baby? i think i can, i think i can...

one thing is for certain, i can't wait to meet it! :)

the tech said she's 80% sure it's a girl - but can't say for certain
so i guess i had my way after all - and
i don't know!! :)
and now - we'll have to wait and see!!
