the maddie's first sleepover

the maddie's had a sleepover tonight! i am not one for sleepovers. if i had to sleep at someone's house as a kid, i honestly felt like i was being punished, so i can't understand why my kids want to sleep anywhere other than in their own bed.

i have also set the rules while they were young, that sleepovers are just a no in general, but that if they do happen one day, that it would have to be someone whose parents i knew really well. both of them. not just the mum, the dad too. and i am sticking to my guns on that... you cannot be too safe with your children.

anyway, madi's parent had a suddent change of plans tonight, when madison was meant to sleep at someone else's house, but they had the risk of having been exposed to covid due to an interstate arrival. madi's mum asked me very hesitantly if she would be able to stay the night at our house and i of course said yes. i don't mind people sleeping here! the only condition was that madison had to come to church with us tomorrow, to which kaz just laughed and said it would be good for her!

the girls and joseph proceeded to have an absolute party at our place and also asked me to drive them around to look at some of the fun christmas light displays we know. they had the best time, played the music loud in the car and laughed non stop.

i love knowing that our kids have such good friends.

the request when we got home was then a "hotcold" which is a hot milo, with a scoop of vanilla icecream instead of milk and for the girls, sprinkles on top. yummmmmm.

gingerbread and christmas houses

our annual gingerbread house decorating evening with the pinker family took place this evening and the competition has become quite fierce. the kids were at it with their chosen grown ups, trying their hardest to outdo each other and i must say, i'm pretty impressed with the results. hearing them laughing and playing about is definitely the best bit!

once the houses were done, we wandered down to the "christmas house", a house close to us that is decorated to the nines each christmas, complete with a santa who greets the kids, characters from frozen who dance in the driveway and loud christmas music - every childs dream!

i finally managed to get the kids into the santa chair for a photo... and not surprisingly at all, this is what i ended up with. i'm not even mad, it shows their personalities perfectly! haha. a few more blocks of wandering and amazing christmas lights later we went home to bed with tired and happy christmased up kids.

it really is the most wonderful time of the year!

christmas!

oh my goodness - so slack!! i just realised that it's christmas eve and i still havent written about our wonderful night last sunday...

our little dianella gang (consisting of the reese's, the williamses and the kendalls) had our christmas dinner at dannielle and cody's house then went out (cramming in some extras in fact 9 of us... into the land cruiser) and checked out some more lights on the magic list (yes - that damn one that cost us two dollars grrrr)

we had a fabulous time, lots and lots and lots of laughs, and doug and got some lovely gifts... and i finally felt like
christmas was on it's way!
we are off to mums tonight... and her fabulous cooking awaits! :)

merry christmas to all and to all...
