another year, another excursion, this time to peninsula farm (again - i've been with madeline's class before lol) with joseph's year 2 class. it was an absolute crack up.
upon arrival the children learn the story of the hardey family who originally lived at peninsula farm and get to be a part of it (you can read more here) as they tell about each family member. they generally look for the kids as they go and this time their host said, now we need someone a little serious to play joseph. well. there is no one more serious than our joseph and she was even more impressed to find out he was a real joseph.
he wasn't very impressed as he was presented with a wife, then four daughters one after the other, then finally a son. he didn't even try and hid his distaste for all the girls lining up one by one and his relief was visible when a boy finally arrived.
i love the old house overlooking the maylands peninsula. it's been lovingly restored and is a great place to visit and learn about history for the kids.
we had to laugh at some of the comments and questions from the kids throughout the day though. my personal favourite was when their host asked why they think the bed would have had curtains around it. one of the girls quickly said, "so no one had to watch them kissing?" what a cracker.
i love their old pantry set up for us to see. i wish my pantry looked like this!
and my life dream, a lemon tree which i sat under for lunch. i made a joke about how funny it would be if a lemon fell on me while i was eating my lunch and one of the little ratbags went and got one and threw it into my lap. i was so surprised and then saw him giggling up a storm behind me. it was so funny.
we played old fashioned games out on the lawn which overlooks the river. quoits, throwing horseshoes, skipping rope, tug of war, hopscotch and knucklebones. much to my delight i was put on knucklebones duty, as i used to love playing as a kid. i showed each group and loved showing off how to play.
it was such a lovely clear day and the sun was beautiful and warm as we sat outside.
the kids also enjoyed making windmills to take home
and having their own tour of the homestead
all too soon it was time to leave again, back to school. what a great day out at the farm, where there is no livestock or crops to be seen haha.
