Lego Masters

We have the absolute best husband/ wife team running our primary aged 7-11 activities at church. They come up with the most fun things ever and this weeks was Lego Masters. My kids (and I am assuming all the other kids ae obsessed with Lego Masters on TV and were so excited to get in and get started. They were told to build something from the Old Testament as that is what we are studying this year in Come Follow Me.

I was so impressed with what they all built too! I have no idea where these amazing ideas come from. Joseph was paired with a boy a little older than him and they built Moses parting the Red Sea, they had a little boat overturned by the wave which I thought was really cool.

So creative!

Maddie and her partner created a temple. I loved it, all white and gold. Technically not from the Old Testament, but totally allowed by the leaders due to King Solomons temple. There was also a Garden of Eden, Noah's Ark and the Tower of Babel.

I loved watching their creativity and how much fun they had. I am not so secretly hoping that this will be a regular activity as everyone loved it so much.

out for a ride

i love our primary activity days sessions for our kids, they are so fun and i love the ideas they have been coming up with. at the beginning of the year, they did some brainstorming about some ideas they'd like to work with for some fun and someone suggested they'd like to just go for a bike ride. so today, that's what they did. all the kids met at one of the local parks and learned some street safety when riding, basic bike maintenance and then did some laps. 

i have never regretted buying the outlander and today was a good reminder of why, with madeline in the front, alex behind me and joseph in the back back seat behind alex, i managed to get both the kids bikes in the back, one on top of the other and then squash alex's try bike in there too. it was rough, but i managed it. so proud. 

they had the best time with each other and (hopefully) learned a lot

and this guy loved it the most. he went speeding about the place on his little bike and was so fast. i tried to get him to come back to the car multiple times when it was time to go, but ended up having to carry him and the bike, while he screamed at me, back to the car. what a hard life. clearly he loves his bike though, so at least we are winning there.

the gift that keeps on giving

yesterday we had our end of year primary activity at the local water playground. it was just hot enough and lovely to run about in the water and on the grass. we didn't have all the kids, which is to be expected in december as everyone always has so many plans, but those who were there enjoyed themselves, especially with the bbq dinner at the end.

i am a member of an lds primary presidencies group on facebook and over time have seen so many amazing ideas on there for things that can be done with the kids to improve their spirituality and relationship with the lord. one that really struck me was that one ward had ordered a copy of the lds friend magazine as a year long subscription to be delivered out to each family for a year! best.idea.ever. i jumped on it and put it to our president and bishopric who also loved it and that was our gift to all our primary families. quite literally the gift that keeps on giving, all year long! 

we handed out their subscription cards at the activity and some at church and the last few to letterboxes, but all the parents loved it and were super stoked with the gift. i'm hoping this is the beginning of something amazing and we can do it each year if it continues to be so well received.

primary sports carnival

ever since covid hit and shut everything down we've struggled to be able to organise primary activities for our kids. we were called as a new primary presidency the week before church was closed down, butttt now that we are able to have church again we organised an activity to get our kids together... outside! we decided on a sports carnival so that we could be outside and appropriately "social distance" whilst doing so.

we had a bunch of kids turn up and had an awesome cheer squad of family members!

first up, we divided the kids into 3 tribes, the nephites (in yellow), the lamanites (in red) and the jaredites (blue) and handed out headbands for them to wear.

 then, we ran age group races on the grass strip by our chapel...

before coming back for team games, which were all modified to suit our day-

-egg and spoon races (with giant spoons and plastic counting eggs)

-flag race (run to each one of the cones and tap as you pass)

-three legged race

-hula hoop circle

-bean bag throw

we kept track of each of the winners throughout the day and allocated points to each of the teams for the individual and team events, to allow us to come to the final winner scores:

nephites in 1st place

lamanites in 2nd place

and jaredites in 3rd pace

we had bishop award the winning tribe with prizes and had our activity days leaders award our choices for the champion girl and boy for the day, we'd been to kmart and picked out a pile of things for them to choose from and they loved it!

we ended the day with a bbq, juice boxes and cupcakes, before racing to pack everything up because the rain was coming in... it was a great day and i'm hoping we manage to sort another one soon!
