festive free dress 2021

it seems to have become a tradition at the kids school - where on the last day of school, they have what is known as "festive free dress" giving the kids a chance to wear their christmas shirts, santa hats and anything else they like. it's so fun!

these two love it and get right into it, so as soon as the christmas shirts appear in store i am straight onto finding them one to wear. joseph's ones this year were especially cool, a pizza triangle tree with "merry crustmas" and a gingerbread man with a broken leg that said "oh snap." maddie was just thrilled to get to wear the shirt again that nanna found her last christmas with the elf on the shelf on it. it's her favourite!

i was so happy to be able to get a better shot of joseph with miss salomon today too as last nights one was not his finest. we were soooo touched to see that she was wearing the earrings we had bought her from josph as an end of year thankyou gift. it was so special.

maddie's sweet little class. she is already wondering who she will be with next year, but only time will tell!

rugby colours dressup and an honour certificate

seeing as the bledisloe cup is tomorrow and being held here in perth, yesterday madeline and joseph's school had a "wear your favourite rugby colours day" to celebrate. they've done it for the wa derby (our local term for the two perth afl teams playing each other) multiple times and one of the teachers from new zealand was like oh hey, when is it our turn, so the principcal decided it was!

we were a household divided, but not as we thought... joseph was really into watching the olympics and cheering on australia, so he insisted on wearing the australian wallabies jersey, but maddie wasn't having a bar of that and set out on a hunt to get herself an all blacks jersery, finally finding one last minute from a friend of ours. she was so proud to be wearing "dads team." it was a cool dress up day and i'm stoked that our school offers so many extra bonus fun things for the kids.

and to top off the fun, maddie was awarded an honour certificate! she was so thrilled as she's been working really hard in class and it's obviously paid off.

it was given for "being an active learner and attentive listener in class. madeline is consistently on task and completes all work to the best of her ability. keep up the sensational work, madeline!"

esps hero dress up day

i laughed so hard at the choice of outfits from these two today on "hero dress up day" at school.

as i have mentioned in previous posts, there was a huge and devastating bushfire burning out of control for over a week, just a few weeks ago. many houses and a lot of land was lost to it's path. the perth lord mayors fund put an appeal into place and many people have donated money, along with those who have donated their time to help during this disaster and other physical items that were so badly needed. our school p&c rose to the occasion and called for a free dress day, where everyone could donate to the fund. we normally ask that people send a gold coin donation, but this time people were sending more, mostly $2, but some notes arrived and the school raised over $1000 from the day!

i was amused though, heroes was chosen as the theme because of all those who had been in the line of fire protecting our land (due to the closeness of the fire many in the school community were affected or knew someone that was) and there my kids are, turning up as basketball players and dance teachers! hahahah. classic kendall craziness. it makes me so happy to see them enjoying things though, so thatá mum win. love our school community!

festive free dress day

i love that for the past few years at our kids school, the last day of school has been what they call a "festive free dress" day. our kids love dressing up in christmas shirts and wearing christmas hats (which i am certain last about 4 minutes once they are at school in the aussie summer heat haha) but they look so cute!

maddie is stoked with this cute as sleeping beauty t-shirt i got her after christmas last year on clearance (yep, always after the bargains) for like $5 from big w and doug and i think it's hilarious because at one stage (long ago) we had considered the name aurora for a girl. when we first got together, i somehow contracted viral pneumonia and was sleeping all the time, so he would refer to me as sleeping beauty as a joke.

our little star wars lover (thank you to weeks of the stay at home orders, where we covered many many movies including all 11 of the star wars movies (rogue one and solo included here)) was stoked with his star ward christmas t from kmart and never wants to take it off.

the three merriest and cutest kids i know.

and just like that - schools over for another year.

as alice cooper once said: school's out for summer!

school sports dress up

today the kidlets had a sports dress up day. they are always excited to go off to school without having to wear their uniform and today was no exception.

joseph decided he was going to be a basketball player and dragged doug off to kmart late last night to get a pair of shorts to go with the shirt he had. heaven forbid he wear a pair we already own...

and miss madeline, went off in her step up street clothes, although let's be honest, she would have probably worn her crop and booty shorts if i allowed it. yikes.

some pretty cute kids on show here. ❤

pyjama free dress day!

we lovvvvve our school. madeline is having the time of her life and learning so much. best of all, there are so many fun things, fundraisers, special lunch days and awesome themed free dress days! earlier this year, we had a purple haze day for the starlight foundation... and today was wear your pyjamas to school day! she was so excited to go off to school in her pyjamas this morning and wear them for the full day. and the best bit about that for me, was that joseph didn't want to get dressed while madeline was in her pjs, so i took them both to school like that. win! it's so much fun for me to see them (trust me joseph already does too!) love school, knowing how much it excited me at that age. yay for school! ♥
