jen and mat are married!!

"there is a happiness that has no end...
it comes when marrying one's best friend"

yesterday i had the privelege of being the "matron" (yes - matron cause i am married) of honour at the wedding of two of my very best friends, mat & jen. it was pretty scary as jen and i woke up at 5:30am to have our hair and makeup done - only to find that it was pouring with rain. i mean really pouring. but the powers of positive thinking was on our side - and shortly before our car arrived - the skies cleared and the sun peeped through

jen was every bit the most beautiful bride i have seen - looked absolutely amazing and was the absolute picture of calm. i was so excited to see her all dressed and ready to go. after a short(ish) ceremony in the valleyview restaurant gardens, the bridal party went to the nearby mallard duck for photos and then returned to the valleyview restaurant for the reception.

jen and i

doug and i - all dressed up! :)

jen and mat and their fabulous (and yummy) cake

i am so happy for mathew & jennifer and wish
them all the best for their

pretty maids all in a row...

l to r: dominique kendall, jennifer marshall, alexandra brennan

these are the three gorgeous girls that were my bridesmaids when doug and i got married 4 and a half years ago.

i am going to be the "matron" (cause i am an old married woman) of honour for jennifer tomorrow and i am very excited!

jen is marrying mat - who has been my friend since kindy - and jen and i have been besties for years, so it's going to be pretty damn special! i can't think of a better possible match!

i hear so many people say that they wish they had chosen differently when picking their bridal party, but i still would pick exactly the same... my sis-in-law to be, best friend, and the friend i promised at 16 years old when i was dreaming of my wedding, some day in the future...

i love you girls - all of you!!

kalgoorlie and more

we have a visitor!
my gorgeous father in law stephen is here to stay with us...

steve posing with a stuffed lion at the kalgoorlie museum

he arrived on thursday night and on friday morning (early...) we took off for a trek to kalgoorlie. i am so proud of myself
- i drove the entire way!!!
but of course, stops are mandatory, and if you time it well enough on a friday morning you can get all four of the
op-shops in on the way...
which we did :)

cunderin, kellerberrin, merredin and southern cross. mmmm bliss

steve was particulary interested in hearing the story of c y o'connor as we drove, about the contribution he made to the goldfields with that amazing engineering feat we know as the goldfields pipeline. i must confess - it's pretty awesome to see following the highway the entire way to kal.

we spent some time with jared and donna and the kids (big shout to laura for so kindly giving up her bed for doug and i!) and looked at the mining museums and town sights like the paddy statue and the mount charlotte resevoir (the end of the pipeline) before heading back to perth sunday afternoon - for a roast dinner at mums and a night there.

mount charlotte- where the pipe-line ends...

and today we went to the other end - the mundaring weir to see the start. i have to admit i am intruiged - looks like i'll be going off to read up on old c y.

mundaring weir - the start of the pipeline

but it's great to have him here... lots of fun to be had!

" we would enjoy much greater success in life if we simply:
found a reason to make it work, instead of why it shouldn't "

there were no more reasons why it shouldn't
- and what do you know??
mum was a roaring success at miss johnsons vintage and handmade fair. i swear she must have sold more than all the other stalls combined. it was very quiet in comparison to the past fairs they have held - but the customers were coming again and again to buy all the beautiful goodies mum had up for grabs!

i'm so proud! go mum!!

if you're down that way make sure you come in and check it out - if last time is anything to go on - it'll be well worth the drive,
plus we need people to chat to of course!

extra special thanks to my mummy for the hours of cooking and preparations she put in - as well as the loan of all her beautiful things for the day. it was a great time had by all...

some sundays are really good... this one was. class went well and for once - everyone listened.
our lesson was about agency - a reminder that we have already made the most important choice we'll ever have to make. and that's why we are here.
we finished up with my favourite church quote:
a few years ago, we knew our elder brother and our father in heaven well. we rejoiced at the upcoming opportunity for earth life that could make it possible for us to have a fullness of joy like they had. we could hardly wait to demonstrate to our father and our brother, the lord, how much we loved them and how we would be obedient to them in spite of the earthly opposition of the evil one.

...and now we’re here—our memories are veiled—and we’re showing god and ourselves what we can do. and nothing is going to startle us more when we pass through the veil to the other side than to realize how well we know our father and how familiar his face is to us. and then, as president brigham young said, we’re going to wonder why we were so stupid in the flesh.
god loves us. he’s watching us, he wants us to succeed, and we’ll know someday that he has not left one thing undone for the eternal welfare of each of us. if we only knew it, there are heavenly hosts pulling for us—friends in heaven that we can’t remember now, who yearn for our victory. this is our day to show what we can do—what life and sacrifice we can daily, hourly, instantly bring to god. if we give our all, we will get his all from the greatest of all.
president ezra taft benson of the council of the twelve.
