all over for another year...

christmas morning was lovely, hot outside but nice and cool inside at mums house.
i got absolutely, spoilt, rotten by doug, the gifts just kept coming and coming and coming
what an amazing husband!
i truly love christmas though, love being with family and friends and just enjoying being.
and lovely to remember that it's such a gift - that we should always be grateful for :)

oh my goodness - so slack!! i just realised that it's christmas eve and i still havent written about our wonderful night last sunday...

our little dianella gang (consisting of the reese's, the williamses and the kendalls) had our christmas dinner at dannielle and cody's house then went out (cramming in some extras in fact 9 of us... into the land cruiser) and checked out some more lights on the magic list (yes - that damn one that cost us two dollars grrrr)

we had a fabulous time, lots and lots and lots of laughs, and doug and got some lovely gifts... and i finally felt like
christmas was on it's way!
we are off to mums tonight... and her fabulous cooking awaits! :)

merry christmas to all and to all...
a good night ♥

and it keeps getting better

birthday week is indeed reigning supreme this year...
last night i had dinner at jimmy deans in midland (best bday restaurant ever... for those who came in late) with doug, jen and mat

twas lots of fun and laugh - and please do note my amazing willie creek pearl from jen for my bday - better pic to follow, but i have it on - bought on her honeymoon - in a star setting!!
know me much...?

i love it - and her...
she's the bestest! :)

bday love!

my beautiful friends dannielle and lisa
kidnapped me on my birthday...
these two gorgeous girls came to my house, curled my hair - made me up - gave me a birthday *star* wand and then took me out for dinner at burswood, where our "gentlemen" friends awaited :)

then back to dannii's house for icecream cake...yum

but all in all i was pretty damn spoiled...
my lovely husband bought me some versace perfume, a gorgeous pandora charm with a star on it :) , the new twilight dvd
and some chocolates

there's nothing better than a birthday!

thanks girlies... i love you both lots and lots! xx

lele's last sunday

it was our leigh's last sunday with us before she heads off for her mission in temple square on thursday :( so in true style, we had a fabulous farewell for her in youth today - combined with the young men and young women and for some reason about 15 or so youth that aren't in our ward... random... they must have heard about the pizza on the grapevine

so - from the vault of northam branch comes a story - of a youth sunday school class with no teacher, who managed to keep this fact a secret for a little over a year. every sunday without fail, we would watch the never-gets-old movie, which every ex-northam kid knows off by heart...

johnny lingo

and that my friends is what happened today... :)
best. lesson. ever.

but... it must be the old version (none of this new rubbish) and must be on vhs - so that the first half of the lesson is wasted looking for said movie on the tape.

we will miss you soo so sooo much leigh!

beauty night

"a winning young woman is a lady in the finest sense of the word. she is poised and trained in the social graces. her good manners are always evident and she doesn’t turn them on and off at her convenience."
or so the girls learnt this week...
after some training on how to walk and sit and speak and behave, we moved into out beauty bags...
containing various items such as:

(barbie) bandaids: to cover and heal the hurts of life with forgiveness
wet wipes: to wipe off any bad habits
rubberband: to be flexible and understanding
cotton ball: to show others gentleness and compassion
comb: to comb out the snarles of criticism
q-tip: the tip of your beauty is charity
soap: our sins can be washed away if we repent
emery board: although our life may seem rough at times, our trials will shape our lives

before putting on mud masks and cucumber slices and relaxing whilst listening to some meditation music

was a lot of good fun :)

the simple things

today was down right rotten

i got mad with everyone, i was busy to the point of ridiculous and had two arguments - one with someone i like, and someone else i don't like a bit.

but i felt like a crazy and... i hated it

it took standing out the front of a church in a quiet street at someone elses funeral, under this beautiful tree to make me realise that it didn't even matter

not even one little bit

there's lot of pretty things amongst the ugly and crazy -

i just have to look for them

temple tins

our young women are spoiled rotten...

imagine their delight when they showed up last night and we had a room full of pretty wedding stuff, complete with things to cut up - and cake and "champers" to boot

temple tins were the on the nights agenda :)

all the glory to dannii... when she was in yws in mandurah, they made a temple tin each - an oversize coffee tin (which mum scored from the ages care kitchen she works in) filled with fabric samples, dress pictures, flowers pictures, generally every possible idea you can come up with for your wedding - plus a slip of paper with a letter to your future husband, and even possible kids names. freaking love it!!! i am just annoyed i never got to make one when i was in youth!!

but it was so much fun - the girls got really into it and got to work

i just can't wait to see if any of their predictions actually come to pass when they are opened when it's time for...

their temple marriage :)

i love winter best

i've been slack this week - and haven't written a thing - cause the week is dragging and it's so freaking hot

there i was... thinking i could escape summer in all it's violence this year - yet here it is, burning me already

sometimes i wish i was one of those people who love summer... who jump at the chance to go to the beach - stay in the sun and go crazy.
but i'm not...
cause i love winter best

so... as all of you know - i am more than just a little obsessed with cardigans and seahorses, so imagine the look of "iwantiwantiwantiwant..." that was on my face when watching ep603 of himym last night.

i am in love with this amazing cardi -and totally want it, but much to my disgust it is a whopping 335 american dollars!!! don't think i'll be getting one any time soon.

but hey - i'll keep dreaming... and if anyone wants to buy it for me, did i mention it's my birthday in 29 days!

what's in a name??

i have to share this - cause i thought it was the cutest thing ever
sandra at work, has a sister clare - who has just given birth to the most beautiful little boy
isaac william
and where did the name come from?
well... we were throwing names around when she was 8 1/2 months preggers and sandra was getting frustrated beacuse she hadn't chosen one yet... the only thought was zac - which meh... i don't like all that much... i commented "i like isaac... -it's my brothers name... i'm just not into the name zac"
the name was suggested - and here he is - inadvertedly named after my big brother!!
let's just hope he doesn't take after him - he'd be a terror!!

makes it all worth it

occasionally you have one of those days at work that reminds you exactly why you do what you do.
today was one of those for me...

obviously won't be mentioning names, but we did a funeral today for a gentleman about 10 or so years older than my dad - with children around my age...

at the end of the service the pallbearers wheeled the coffin out of the church and then carried it down the stairs - before lifting the coffin onto their shoulders and carrying it to the hearse that way. the two gentlemen at the back of the procession wrapped their arms around each others shoulders for balance (and support also i assume...) it was such an amazing sight... i know this used to be the norm for all funerals - but in these days of occupational health and safety blah blah blah - it's not done and in fact basically discouraged, so it really touched me. five and a half years in a funeral home and i have never once seen a coffin shouldered before. it is impressive! and certainly brought more than one tear to my eyes...

and reminded me exactly why i do what i do

freo with f-i-l

by fil... i mean father-in-law - steve

i'm pretty sure all his dreams came true in a matter of just a few hours as we trekked around freo yesterday afternoon
and took him to the:
-bon scott statue (on the fremantle fishing harbour)

-the bon scott memorial (at fremantle cemetery)

-and the fremantle prison (where ac/dc shot their
jail break video clip)

and personally i think i was much cheaper than
the highway to hell tour!
and a lot more fun!!

p.s. steves favaourite story to tell everyone is pretty damn good - so i am going to share it - bon scott (as most of you probably know) was the long time leading frontman of legendary aussie rock group ac/dc - who passed away in 1980. he is from perth and has a memorial at fremantle cemetery... where i quite often get to go through work (again... for those of you possible randoms reading my blog - i am a funeral director) one day i am at the cemetery running between funerals and some random passes me and says "excuse me - do you know where i could find bon scott?" jade - "ummm - does he work here - one of the gardeners?" random - "you're kidding me right? bon scott... leadman of ac/dc? he is memorialised here..." jade - "right... nope, no idea - ask at the front office" and i walk off...

he's never let me live it down

jen and mat are married!!

"there is a happiness that has no end...
it comes when marrying one's best friend"

yesterday i had the privelege of being the "matron" (yes - matron cause i am married) of honour at the wedding of two of my very best friends, mat & jen. it was pretty scary as jen and i woke up at 5:30am to have our hair and makeup done - only to find that it was pouring with rain. i mean really pouring. but the powers of positive thinking was on our side - and shortly before our car arrived - the skies cleared and the sun peeped through

jen was every bit the most beautiful bride i have seen - looked absolutely amazing and was the absolute picture of calm. i was so excited to see her all dressed and ready to go. after a short(ish) ceremony in the valleyview restaurant gardens, the bridal party went to the nearby mallard duck for photos and then returned to the valleyview restaurant for the reception.

jen and i

doug and i - all dressed up! :)

jen and mat and their fabulous (and yummy) cake

i am so happy for mathew & jennifer and wish
them all the best for their
"happpily ever after"

pretty maids all in a row...

l to r: dominique kendall, jennifer marshall, alexandra brennan

these are the three gorgeous girls that were my bridesmaids when doug and i got married 4 and a half years ago.

i am going to be the "matron" (cause i am an old married woman) of honour for jennifer tomorrow and i am very excited!

jen is marrying mat - who has been my friend since kindy - and jen and i have been besties for years, so it's going to be pretty damn special! i can't think of a better possible match!

i hear so many people say that they wish they had chosen differently when picking their bridal party, but i still would pick exactly the same... my sis-in-law to be, best friend, and the friend i promised at 16 years old when i was dreaming of my wedding, some day in the future...

i love you girls - all of you!!

kalgoorlie and more

we have a visitor!
my gorgeous father in law stephen is here to stay with us...

steve posing with a stuffed lion at the kalgoorlie museum

he arrived on thursday night and on friday morning (early...) we took off for a trek to kalgoorlie. i am so proud of myself
- i drove the entire way!!!
but of course, stops are mandatory, and if you time it well enough on a friday morning you can get all four of the
op-shops in on the way...
which we did :)

cunderin, kellerberrin, merredin and southern cross. mmmm bliss

steve was particulary interested in hearing the story of c y o'connor as we drove, about the contribution he made to the goldfields with that amazing engineering feat we know as the goldfields pipeline. i must confess - it's pretty awesome to see following the highway the entire way to kal.

we spent some time with jared and donna and the kids (big shout to laura for so kindly giving up her bed for doug and i!) and looked at the mining museums and town sights like the paddy statue and the mount charlotte resevoir (the end of the pipeline) before heading back to perth sunday afternoon - for a roast dinner at mums and a night there.

mount charlotte- where the pipe-line ends...

and today we went to the other end - the mundaring weir to see the start. i have to admit i am intruiged - looks like i'll be going off to read up on old c y.

mundaring weir - the start of the pipeline

but it's great to have him here... lots of fun to be had!

happy birthday daddles!
may all your goodlet industrial dreams come true!

" we would enjoy much greater success in life if we simply:
found a reason to make it work, instead of why it shouldn't "

there were no more reasons why it shouldn't
- and what do you know??
mum was a roaring success at miss johnsons vintage and handmade fair. i swear she must have sold more than all the other stalls combined. it was very quiet in comparison to the past fairs they have held - but the customers were coming again and again to buy all the beautiful goodies mum had up for grabs!

i'm so proud! go mum!!

x :) x

some sundays are really good... this one was. class went well and for once - everyone listened.
our lesson was about agency - a reminder that we have already made the most important choice we'll ever have to make. and that's why we are here.
we finished up with my favourite church quote:
a few years ago, we knew our elder brother and our father in heaven well. we rejoiced at the upcoming opportunity for earth life that could make it possible for us to have a fullness of joy like they had. we could hardly wait to demonstrate to our father and our brother, the lord, how much we loved them and how we would be obedient to them in spite of the earthly opposition of the evil one.

...and now we’re here—our memories are veiled—and we’re showing god and ourselves what we can do. and nothing is going to startle us more when we pass through the veil to the other side than to realize how well we know our father and how familiar his face is to us. and then, as president brigham young said, we’re going to wonder why we were so stupid in the flesh.
god loves us. he’s watching us, he wants us to succeed, and we’ll know someday that he has not left one thing undone for the eternal welfare of each of us. if we only knew it, there are heavenly hosts pulling for us—friends in heaven that we can’t remember now, who yearn for our victory. this is our day to show what we can do—what life and sacrifice we can daily, hourly, instantly bring to god. if we give our all, we will get his all from the greatest of all.
president ezra taft benson of the council of the twelve.
